On November 4th SRAM identified and announced a technical issue with respect to a narrow production range of its RED 22 and S-700 Hydraulic Road Brakes. At that time, it was described as a performance and safety concern with no reported failures in the field.

It has recently come to our attention that during last weekend’s Cyclocross racing in the US, in sub freezing temperatures, several failures were reported. In these conditions the master cylinder seals failed to hold pressure resulting in abrupt loss of brake power, and an inability to stop the bike. These failures are related to product that is outside the originally stated date code range and unrelated to the original failure mode. No injuries have been reported to date.

As a result of this new finding, SRAM requests that anyone who has a bike equipped with SRAM Hydraulic Disc or Hydraulic Rim Brakes stop using the bike immediately. All products shipped to date, and currently in the market or in inventory will be recalled.

Further, we are asking our Bike Brand customers, OE factories, Distributors and Dealers to cease all sales and shipments of SRAM RED 22 and S-700 Hydraulic Road Brakes. A total of approximately 19,000 brake systems have been shipped to date into the global market.

Quarantine efforts currently underway with Factories, Bike Brands, and Distributors will be broadened to include all Dealers with inventory on bikes, or as Aftermarket product. Additional information related to timing and replacement of product will be forthcoming.

As originally announced we have reported this issue to the US CPSC and will be cooperating with the agency to announce a Safety Recall. We will also be contacting and working closely with appropriate like agencies in Europe and globally.

This is Jeremy from Alchemy Bicycle Works. I was informed of this post yesterday. Yes, it is true; we have discovered a potential safety problem with some ORC-UL hubs. We have been trying to personally contact every owner of an ORC-UL that may be affected by this issue. To do this, we have attempted to get all customer contact information from the retailers who sold the hubs.

While I appreciate the kind words of tvad, I do believe that there is a potential safety issue involved. The issue will not cause catastrophic failure of the hub, but it may cause the cassette mechanism to bind. This can cause the chain to wrap up around the cassette, which could cause the rear wheel to stop spinning freely. So, we do advise that customers cease to ride an ORC-UL equipped rear wheel until the issue is resolved.

We are honestly trying to resolve this situation to the satisfaction of each customer.

Some Trek bicycles were sold equipped with disc brakes and a front quick release
lever that opens past 180° (fig. 1). If the quick release is improperly adjusted or
left open on a bicycle which also has a front disc brake, the quick release lever can
become caught in the front disc brake assembly (fig. 2). If this happens, the front
wheel could separate or come to a sudden stop and the rider could lose control of
the bicycle.

Trek wants you to be safe. You should always correctly adjust the quick release on
your bicycle before you ride. Trek’s Owner’s Manual contains detailed instructions
for proper quick release installation and removal. If you do not have a Trek Owner’s
Manual, see your local Trek retailer.

these materials and to consult your local Trek retailer with any questions regarding
proper use of your quick release.
This letter contains important information regarding what to do next if you have one of these bicycles. Your safety is very
important to us. Therefore, if desired, Trek will replace the front quick release mechanism on affected bicycle, free of charge.
This includes replacement of the specially-designed quick release with washers if it has already been installed on your bike.
AFFECTED MODELS
Any Trek bicycle equipped with disc brakes and a front quick release lever that can open beyond 180º and contact the disc brake
assembly is affected. If you are unsure whether your bicycle has this combination, please take it to your local Trek retailer for a
free inspection.

If you own a bicycle that is affected by this recall and would like a replacement quick release, Trek will provide you—through
your Trek retailer—a free replacement quick release, including free installation. In addition, you will receive a $20 coupon to use
towards any Bontrager product redeemable through December 31, 2015 at your local authorized Trek retailer. This coupon has

Dit gaat de markt voor hydro shifters natuurlijk ook geen goed doen.
