WCS protocol wielen; I have a very close contact with these wheels every day. Some of those sets where been used by one of the continental teams in 2004.
The wheels itself suprised me with keeping a straight line and not giving problems regarding
spoke breakage.Altough they have only 24 spokes in the rear wheel and 20 in the front,if my memory
is giving me the right data...
But; the bearings are the problem.WCS and American Classic use 15x26x7 bearings. The numbers are the size of the bearing in mm. MR 1526 2 RS is the code of the bearing.
These bearings are very difficult to find.
Both hubs come out of the production with some bearings made in China. They worn out quickly, unfortunately.
But WCS and American Classic hubs are equiped with Enduro ,or Enduro max, those bearings will give you thousands of KMrs without problems.
Enduro and Enduro Max bearings are available in the exclusive 15 x 26 x 7 mm size. Both are high quality, using grade 25 bearings (Dura Ace, XTR, Campy grade), while the Enduro Max is of the full-compliment type.
If you want to replace them by yourself, be careful with the cassette body. Don't put too much grease in the housing of the body.
Too much grease can jam the spring which realeases the drive mechanism from catching.

Hi,
Is het bearing issue with Ritchey Protocol wheels still actual? Via bikestudio.nl there is an interesting offer for this wheel. I wonder if they still sell it with the faulty bearing, or with a new type.

Contact bikestudio and ask it, I bought a set in Dalen and the body was modified, there is no problem with the bearing.
I'm very happy with this wheelset.
